More trainees laid off at Infosys?

These 45 trainees were also part of the 1,200 onboarded about 5 months ago

After being criticised for letting go around 400 trainees who failed to perform in the company’s tough assessment, Infosys has laid off 40–45 more trainees out of the 1,200 engineers it had onboarded between October and November.

Infosys had indefinitely postponed a key internal assessment originally scheduled for 18 February, at its Mysore campus. The delay followed strong backlash after the company terminated hundreds of trainees, sparking criticism from employee unions and prompting government intervention. The assessment was reportedly earlier set to involve around 800 employees, with results expected by 19 February 2025, and potential terminations by 21 February. The IT services company assessed these engineers on 18 March.

The assessment was rescheduled so that the trainees had sufficient time to prepare for the same. They were also offered sessions to clear doubts and mock tests for better preparation. Following the assessment, at least 45 freshers were informed that they had failed the foundation skills programme, as they could not meet the criteria to qualify and had not made the cut as per Infosys standards.

The trainees will have to reportedly sign a Separation and General Release Agreement, following which they will receive a month’s pay along with a relieving letter.

The affected trainees have reportedly been assured of outplacement support in their search for alternate jobs. Infosys, it is reported, has offered the impacted trainees 12 weeks of external training to prepare for jobs in the BPM sector. If they clear the training, they become eligible to apply for Infosys’ BPM.
