A US-based Meta employee has stirred debate online after calling India’s tech recruitment scene “strange” and “unprofessional” in a post shared on the anonymous workplace forum Blind. The verified user, an Indian national currently employed by Meta in the United States, said he is exploring opportunities in India as he plans to move back later this year.
The employee’s comments have gone viral among tech circles, as he criticized several recruiters from Indian offices of major tech companies like Uber and Atlassian. Describing their attitude as “condescending” and “disrespectful of time,” he said many reached out beyond agreed time slots and grew upset when he didn’t answer.
“Why would you call me outside of the availability I have provided and then be grumpy I didn’t pick up?” he wrote, describing the interaction as “typically Indian.”
Despite the criticism, he noted that companies like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon handled their recruitment processes professionally and expressed hope that his positive experience with them would continue through the interview stages.
The post sparked a range of reactions, with some users sharing similar frustrations about India’s hiring culture. Others advised the employee against returning to India, though he explained that his decision is driven by personal reasons, particularly his desire to be closer to aging parents.
Blind, the platform where the post was made, requires users to verify their employment through work emails, lending credibility to the poster’s identity.
