CEO Faces Backlash for Claiming He Doesn’t Do Dishes, Prioritizes $5,000/Hour Tasks

Ravi Abuvala, an Indian-origin CEO, has stirred controversy after revealing that he hasn’t done the dishes in four years, claiming that he prioritizes “high-value” tasks over household chores. In a LinkedIn post that quickly went viral, Abuvala explained his reasoning, saying, “Not because I’m lazy. Because my time is worth $5,000/hour.”

He outlined his logic, stating, “Dishes = $15/hour to delegate. My time = $5,000/hour. Decision = obvious.” By delegating tasks like washing dishes, Abuvala argues that he can focus on more lucrative, business-aligned work. “Stop doing $15/hour tasks. Start doing $5,000/hour work. That’s how you scale,” he wrote, encouraging others to focus on value-driven tasks that contribute to growth.

The post, which also featured a picture of him on a jet ski, generated a mix of reactions from readers.

One user responded positively, writing, “Good perspective. I agree. There are many tasks that AI or hourly workers can handle. I value my time and prefer to spend it on productive, value-driven work rather than mundane chores. Of course, we all do these things when help isn’t available.”

Another commenter took a more sarcastic approach, saying, “Stop sleeping, because sleeping earns $0/hr. Now that’s how you scale.”

Some users disagreed with his perspective, with one commenting, “Everything cannot and should not be measured on its dollar value.” Others supported Abuvala’s view, with one remarking, “Well said. One needs to know the Time Value of Money.”

A few comments also referenced Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, noting, “Remember Jeff Bezos still does the dishes. Make room for puttering,” a nod to the second-richest person in the world, whose net worth stands at $237.9 billion.

Abuvala is the CEO of Scaling With Systems, a company he founded in 2019 that helps coaches and agencies scale their businesses efficiently. According to his LinkedIn profile, he completed his education at Florida State University, where he earned two Bachelor’s degrees in International Relations and Affairs, and Political Science and Government, graduating in 2016.
