India’s Top IT Players Resume Aggressive Hiring Spree

India’s leading IT services giants—Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, and Wipro—have collectively added 13,553 employees in the first leg of FY25, marking a clear turnaround from the previous year’s hiring freeze. This recovery comes on the heels of FY24’s historic net reduction of over 63,000 jobs, triggered by a global tech slowdown and reduced client spending.

TCS led the hiring pack with 6,433 new additions, while Infosys followed closely, onboarding 6,388 employees. Wipro, though more conservative in its approach, still managed to increase its headcount by 732. This hiring momentum, while modest compared to pre-pandemic highs, signals a cautious yet strategic push toward stabilizing workforce strength in a recovering global environment.

The companies also reported fresh additions in the March quarter alone: TCS brought in 625 employees, Infosys added 199, and Wipro hired 614. These numbers reflect growing optimism about demand recovery, especially in key sectors such as digital transformation and cloud services.

Freshers remain a key focus in this revival story. TCS announced it had onboarded 42,000 trainees in FY25 and intends to match or slightly exceed that number in FY26. Infosys echoed a similar sentiment, having already met its FY25 target of 15,000 to 20,000 campus hires and now planning to recruit over 20,000 freshers in the current fiscal. Wipro has also indicated continued hiring efforts, though specifics for FY26 are yet to be publicly shared.

In terms of employee compensation, Infosys has taken the lead by rolling out wage hikes beginning in January, with further increases effective from April. TCS, however, is holding off on salary increments until it gains greater visibility into business forecasts. Wipro remains undecided for now, citing its early roll-out of hikes in September 2023—well ahead of the usual cycle.

Despite geopolitical uncertainties and evolving client budgets, the renewed hiring and investment in early talent hint at a long-term outlook that values resilience, adaptability, and future-readiness. These strategic moves indicate that while the road ahead may still carry global headwinds, India’s top IT firms are recalibrating for a more stable and growth-oriented FY26.
