‘Not A Team Player…’: ‘Toxic’ Manager Lectures Employee For Not Working On ‘Day Off’ | Viral

Mostly, a ‘day off’ means ‘work’ can be the last thing that one has to think about throughout the day. However, when a 22-year-old woman did something similar, she allegedly ended up getting a lecture on NOT being a ‘team player’! Taking to social media, the woman shared a work-related incident on Reddit. As per the Reddit post, the store where the woman works recently laid off half the team. Due to fewer employees, her manager allegedly texted her asking if could come to work on her ‘day off’, as managing the work was getting difficult. The Redditor refused to come, resulting in the manager sharing ‘passive aggressive’ social media stories that the woman speculated were a taunt to her.

As per the post, the boss then began to talk about ‘reconsidering’ the woman’s ‘reliability’ the next day, along with lecturing and taunting her about ‘real team players’. Times Now could not confirm the authenticity of the post. As soon as the post went viral, netizens began to share their take. Most found the incident triggering, while the rest suggested she leave the job.

“My manager said I- Wasn’t a team player- for not coming in on my day off after they fired half our team,” the post read.

“I (22F) work at a small clothing store in a mall. Last week, corporate laid off three people from our six-person staff – no warning, just ‘cutbacks’. It’s now basically me, one other part-timer, and my manager. I was scheduled off Thursday. First one in over a week. I had errands, a doctor appointment, and planned to finally sleep in. At 8AM, I got a text from my manager: Hey, can you come in? It’s just me here and we’re slammed. I replied: Sorry, I can’t today. I have plans and wasn’t scheduled. She left me on read. That night, I saw she’d posted a passive-aggressive story on IG about- some people only caring about themselves,” the post reads.

“Then yesterday, during my shift, she told me she’s ‘reconsidering my reliability’ and that real team players step up when it’s hard. Sorry, but I’m paid $15/hr. I don’t get benefits, I don’t get PTO, and you fired half the team. You don’t get to guilt me into unpaid loyalty. And now she’s giving me the silent treatment,” the post further read.

The post was shared on Reddit, by the handle ‘AliceWillxo’. The post was shared 4 days ago and pulled more than 22K upvotes from people.

“I had a business owner threaten me with hints that maybe I wasn’t going to “work out” because I didn’t bend to their every whim. I no longer work for that person,” a user said. “Wait until she finds out how much of a team player you are when you get a better job and quit,” added a second person.

“I’ve told a few managers- those are brave words coming from someone so short-staffed,” added another. “Sounds like they’re about to lose 4. Also wouldn’t recommend connecting with your managers on Instagram or any social media apps, it’s ripe for abuse. So immature and unprofessional for her to post a story like that,” commented another.

“The silent treatment from a boss like that sounds like a perk, not a punishment,” added another. “Quit so she can hire a real team player,” added another. “She texted you at 8 am that she was slammed busy? In a mall that isn’t open yet?” added another.
